Rum Punch has never tasted so good

Ok, it’s almost the middle of January and I’m pretty sure everyone is freezing and completely over the cold weather. I live in Florida and we’ve had below freezing temps and snow flurries. While I wait for the summer to take my next Caribbean vacation I was thinking of how I can “get that Caribbean feeling” until then. My taste buds clued me in on the perfect answer. I made myself a batch of Rum Punch.I’m not a bartender and I don’t have all the cool ingredients to make great drinks. So I went on a search to find a simple Rum Punch recipe. For me the less ingredients the better. Here’s the recipe I found:

Rum Punch 1 1/2oz. Dark Rum 1/4oz Lime Juice 2oz. Orange Juice 2oz. Pineapple Juice A dash of bitters

View cruise ship schedules online

For any die-hard cruise fans (or up and coming cruise fans) you can view the schedules of most every cruise ship in the world online. CruiseCal.com is an awesome website to check where each cruise ship is currently docked. The site lists arrival and departure times and even notes if the ship is going to be late. Along with the daily list of ships each one has links to individual calendars for each ship and each port. For those ports and ships that have webcams available, a link is also provided.

Most every cruise ship these days has satellite Internet access. Not only can cruise ship passengers surf the web from anywhere in the world, anyone can view the cameras onboard. Not all cruise ships and cruise lines offer live feeds of the ships cameras. The image to the left is from the Carnival Liberty which I have personally sailed on. It looks like they are having great weather today! I wish I was laying by the pool myself.

Get that vacation feeling without taking a vacation

Nothing quite compares to the feeling you get when you are about to go on vacation. The stress of everyday life and work commitments melt away (or they should) and all you can think about is the fun ahead.

I love to go on a cruise. I try to go at least twice a year. In between cruise vacations I try to get that cruise vacation feeling as often as possible. I am lucky to live near a major cruise port and can go watch the cruise ships leave port. There are several outdoor restaurants at the cruise terminal near me where people gather to see the cruise ships leave. The picture above was taken at a recent trip to the cruise terminal while watching the Carnival Legend leave port. The weather wasn’t cooperating but it didn’t damper the mood any. Spending an afternoon at an outdoor restaurant enjoying a few drinks and watching everyone board the ship makes for a great afternoon. The ships usually leave around 4PM so it’s pretty easy to schedule around when ships will be in port.

T he hard part is fighting the temptation to book a last minute ticket and jumping onboard. The best part is doing this a couple weeks before going on a cruise. I can’t think of a better way to get ready for a cruise.
